Barjola Museum

The Barjola Museum occupies the old complex of La Trinidad, on the one hand, the palace house of Jove, of which only the main façade remains, and on the other, the chapel of La Trinidad, a fantastic example of Gijón Baroque from the 17th century, of which the façade and the main structure have been preserved.

The museum has four floors, with a large entrance hall that allows visitors to observe and enjoy the full height and luminosity of the building. The three upper floors display part of Juan Barjola's work, centred between the mid-1950s and the late 1980s. The oldest paintings are exhibited on the upper floor. The ground floor is the setting for one of the major paintings in the exhibition, "El muro de las otras lamentaciones", next to the museum reception and offices. Temporary exhibitions are located in the Chapel of the Trinity, with a special focus on sculpture.

Permanent exhibitions: The work donated to the Principality of Asturias by the Extremaduran painter Juan Barjola. On the three upper floors, part of Juan Barjola's work is exhibited, centred between the mid 1950s and the late 1980s. The oldest paintings are exhibited on the upper floor, with the exception of a self-portrait from 1950 which can be seen in the entrance hall. The work from the 1960s and, above all, from the prolific 1980s, is displayed on the first and second floors. On the ground floor is "El muro de las otras lamentaciones" (The wall of other lamentations).

Temporary exhibitions: The museum holds approximately 6 sculpture exhibitions a year, as well as other more local activities such as: The Comic Fair or Philately Exhibitions.
